Epic Games, the creator of the massively popular video game Fortnite, was hit with the FTC's largest penalty ever for a rule violation this week.
A $520 million fine was imposed on the developer for breaking the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act.
It featured a broken purchase system that authorized several individuals under the age of 13 to make unauthorized purchases using their parents' credit cards.
The game's developers utilise "dark patterns," or deceptive user interfaces that make it simple to make unintended purchases of money.

According to the FTC, $245 million of the $520 million will go to players who were duped into making unintended purchases.
