Google appears to be alarmed by ChatGPT, an AI chatbot created by OpenAI that gained popularity for providing direct answers to nearly any question.

While Google has been actively developing its own AI technologies, it has been reluctant to make them available to the general public out of concern for how society may be impacted.

In 2016, shortly after its launch, Microsoft was forced to hastily take its AI chatbot offline. A chatbot was also introduced by Facebook parent company Meta, but it soon started providing racist responses.
