Google agreement to offer the NFL's 'Sunday Ticket' to YouTube.

The battle for the NFL's "Sunday Ticket" service appears to be nearing to a close. The NFL and Google's YouTube were in "advanced talks" for exclusive subscription rights.

The sports package allows fans to catch games outside of their local market.

"NFL Sunday Ticket" has been exclusive to DirecTV in the United States. The 2022 season was the company's final year as the exclusive carrier of the service.

Earlier this year, the NFL stated that Amazon and Apple were the leading bidders. DirecTV's contract was extended in 2014, and it now pays $1.5 billion per season.

The new agreement is estimated to bring in roughly $2.5 billion every year. According to the source, an agreement might be made as soon as Wednesday.

Before the league and DirecTV agreed on an extension, Google and the NFL met in August 2013. Analysts assumed DirecTV was losing money on the arrangement at the time.

With the launch of NFL+ this summer, the NFL dabbled in the subscription game. Preseason games were available through the service.
