Cold weather kills 28 people in western New York

One of the worst weather-related disasters to ever hit western New York, which claimed 28 lives, On monday.

There have been at least another 20 deaths reported across the rest of the United States as a result of the fierce winter storm.

Acc. to the National Weather Service, up to 9 more inches (23 centimetres) of snow could fall in some parts of western New York through Tuesday.

Around Buffalo, bodies were discovered in homes, cars, and snowbanks. Some people died while shovelling snow, while others died as a result of delayed response to medical emergencies.

Scientists say the climate change crisis may have contributed to the storm's intensity. This is due to the fact that the atmosphere can carry more water vapour, which acts as fuel.

The blizzard ravaged western New York on Friday and Saturday. With many grocery stores in the Buffalo area closed and driving is bans.

According to the flight tracking website FlightAware, 3,410 domestic and international flights were cancelled as of 3 p.m. EDT Monday.
