A number of new boutique hotels have recently opened in San Luis Obispo County, California (SLO CAL), expanding the area’s selection of lodging options, which already includes historic hotels, beachside resorts, hip motels, and cosy B&Bs.
In addition to the Hotel San Luis Obispo in the thriving city of San Luis Obispo and Vespera on Ocean on Pismo Beach, SLO CAL welcomed The Piccolo Hotel in the heart of Paso Robles in 2019. In addition to White Water Cambria and San Luis Creek Lodge being renovated by designer Nina Freudenberg in 2020, Hotel Cerro opened in downtown San Luis Obispo. In the coming year, the Central Coast will see a few more exciting changes, including the opening of three new Nomada Hotel Group hotels in 2023.
Pacific Motel, Cayucos (September 2022)
One of the original Cayucos motels, which debuted on September 19 in San Luis Obispo County, has reopened under a new name after undergoing a significant renovation. A 20-room, beach-style, boutique motel, Pacific Motel is made up of old bungalows that have been enlarged. It is situated close to the beach. The quaint seaside town of Cayucos is home to a historic pier, as well as boutiques, hip stores, popular restaurants, and unique antique shops. It is conveniently located just off Highway 1.
Farmhouse, Downtown Paso Robles (January 2023)
The Farmhouse Hotel is a distinctive bed and breakfast style hotel with a compound of 26 separate cottages that is situated in the center of Paso Robles, the third-largest wine region in California. All of the cottages are close to the downtown area. The renovated property offers a small-town retreat with thoughtfully designed amenities like a full breakfast, a lobby market, and stocked minibars, similar in spirit to the portfolio’s current Hotel Ynez.
River Lodge, Paso Robles (May 2023)
With 27 rooms, River Lodge offers a retreat to the wine region. A huge central pool, outside gardens, a lobby store, an indoor/outdoor bar, and a full-service restaurant offering three meals a day are all features of the newly renovated motel. Located at the beginning of the Paso Robles wine path, guests will have access to e-bikes that will allow them to quickly go to downtown and the regions nearby vineyards.
Pozo, Santa Margarita Lake (August 2023)
With 30 total lodging options, including airstreams, luxurious tents, and RV hookups for sprinter vans, Pozo offers a classic “encampo” location close to Santa Margarita Lake. All of these lodging options are situated close to the famous Pozo Saloon. The ancient saloon, which opened its doors in 1858, served as the hub for musical festivals and neighborhood get-togethers. Future events will be held at the location, which has hosted a variety of performers, including Kendrick Lamar and Willie Nelson. The property’s assortment of distinctive features also includes a distillery, a central pool with outdoor bath tubs, and a full-service restaurant close to the area’s lake, hiking, and horseback riding paths.
